Style Icon Saturdays by Meg Featuring Cate Blanchett

Cate Blanchett is someone I always look for on the Red Carpet, or at any event really, because she always looks lovely- she's as close to a guaranteed hit as you can get.

One of the reasons I love her style so much is because she is such a risk taker. You can always count on Cate to dress apart from the crowd.

Cate picks a lot of unusual dresses, either with regard to structure, pattern, or details which not only bring interest to her dresses and makes her stand out, but shows off a bit of personality.

that choosing an usual color (not many people go with this particular peachy orange!), especially one that suits your skin tone and hair colour, is a lovely way to stand out in a crowd.

that an unusual cut and draping lends itself to nicely to a high fashion and modern look.

And sometimes, trade the dress for a suit. Cate is known for uncanny ability to look amazing in menswear- suits, namely. This is where a lot of the comparisons to Katherine Hepburn come from, I can see it- especially when she's in trousers and a button down.

I, being on the petite side, often feel I can't pull it off quite in the same way, but I've learned one can always access aspects of a style that will work with any body type. A good pair of trousers or a suit can work with anyone, you just have to find the right one!

Sometimes just wearing the suit jacket can feel more casual and comfortable for those of us who aren't used to dressing up quite so much...
